Redesign the mobile experience of Uber One for families

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Uber is a mobility and delivery platform; its products include rides, Uber Eats, grocery and retail delivery, freight, driver and courier tools, and marketplace pricing.

Uber One is Uber’s membership experience across rides and delivery, but families often use Uber differently from individual subscribers: multiple household members may need rides, meals, groceries, scheduled trips, safety visibility, and shared payment or membership benefits. The redesign should focus on how the mobile Uber One experience can better support parents, guardians, partners, teens, caregivers, and other household members who coordinate mobility and delivery needs together.

Consider the end-to-end family workflow inside the Uber app: discovering the value of Uber One, deciding whether the membership works for a household, managing family members, using benefits across rides and Eats, handling shared payments, coordinating safety-sensitive trips, and understanding savings or eligibility. The experience should account for real-world constraints such as trust, privacy, local market differences, marketplace reliability, subscription economics, and Uber’s need to maintain a simple mobile experience.

Your task is to define the user problems and design direction for a family-oriented Uber One mobile experience. Stay focused on the product experience and user journey rather than pricing strategy alone, and consider what should be included, excluded, or prioritized for an initial version.

The experience should consider:

- The primary family personas and their different needs, such as parents booking for children, partners sharing benefits, or caregivers coordinating rides and deliveries

- Key moments of friction in the current membership journey, including onboarding, benefit discovery, member management, payment, and support

- How families understand and trust which Uber One benefits apply across rides, food delivery, grocery, and other Uber services

- Safety, permissions, visibility, and control needs when one person coordinates activity for another household member

- Mobile UX complexity, including how to avoid cluttering the existing Uber and Uber Eats experiences

- Marketplace and operational constraints, such as driver availability, delivery reliability, local regulations, and support burden

- Business trade-offs around membership adoption, retention, benefit usage, fraud prevention, and unit economics

The goal is to describe a redesigned mobile experience that makes Uber One more useful and understandable for families, while preserving trust, reliability, and business viability for Uber’s marketplace.
