Build a trust-focused improvement for Freight used by merchants at global scale

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Uber is a mobility and delivery platform; its products include rides, Uber Eats, grocery and retail delivery, freight, driver and courier tools, and marketplace pricing.

Uber Freight connects shippers, carriers, and logistics partners in a high-stakes marketplace where merchants rely on timely, accurate, and predictable freight movement to keep inventory, customer promises, and operating costs under control. In this product design exercise, you are asked to design a trust-focused improvement for merchants using Freight at global scale.

Focus on the merchant-side experience: a merchant or operations team creating shipments, selecting or accepting freight options, tracking movement, resolving exceptions, and evaluating whether Uber Freight is a dependable partner for recurring logistics needs. Trust may be affected by unclear pricing, shipment visibility gaps, missed pickup or delivery windows, claims handling, carrier reliability, documentation accuracy, cross-border complexity, or support responsiveness.

The scope is not to redesign the entire freight marketplace. Your task is to identify a meaningful trust gap in the merchant workflow and design a product experience that helps merchants feel confident before, during, and after a shipment, while accounting for Uber’s marketplace dynamics, operational realities, and global variation.

The experience should consider:

- Which merchant personas and shipment contexts matter most, such as SMB merchants, enterprise shippers, marketplace sellers, or time-sensitive inventory teams

- The end-to-end merchant workflow from quote or booking through delivery confirmation, exception resolution, and repeat usage

- Trust signals merchants need to make decisions, including reliability, cost transparency, service quality, accountability, and proof of performance

- How the product handles uncertainty, delays, damaged goods, carrier changes, documentation issues, or support escalation

- Differences across regions, languages, regulations, shipment types, and logistics norms at global scale

- Marketplace trade-offs between merchant trust, carrier flexibility, liquidity, operational cost, and unit economics

- How the improvement would fit into existing merchant tools, notifications, dashboards, support channels, and account-management workflows

Your goal is to frame the trust problem clearly, choose a high-value merchant use case, and describe a product experience that improves confidence and repeat usage without assuming perfect logistics execution. The best answer should show strong user empathy, marketplace reasoning, and practical product judgment for a global freight environment.
