Problem Statement Description
Product context: Uber is a mobility and delivery platform; its products include rides, Uber Eats, grocery and retail delivery, freight, driver and courier tools, and marketplace pricing.
Uber One is a paid membership across Uber’s mobility and delivery ecosystem, but the current mobile experience may not fully reflect how families coordinate rides, meals, groceries, budgets, safety, and shared benefits across multiple people. This product design question asks you to rethink the Uber One mobile experience specifically for family households, where decision-making, payment, trust, scheduling, and benefit visibility can be more complex than for an individual subscriber.
Focus on the end-to-end mobile workflow for a family using Uber One across common scenarios such as arranging rides for children or relatives, ordering meals for the household, managing recurring needs, understanding membership savings, and coordinating between multiple family members. The redesign should account for Uber’s marketplace realities: availability, reliability, safety, pricing transparency, local market differences, and the operational constraints of rides and delivery.
Your task is not to design a generic family account feature, but to define what “Uber One for families” should feel like inside the Uber mobile experience: who it serves, what pain points it resolves, what interactions matter most, and how the experience should balance convenience, control, trust, and business viability.
The experience should consider:
- The primary family user segments, such as parents, caregivers, teens, grandparents, or shared households, and how their needs differ.
- Key family workflows across rides, food, grocery, and membership management.
- Friction around account sharing, permissions, payment methods, spending limits, safety, and coordination.
- How Uber One benefits are discovered, understood, used, and valued by a family over time.
- Trust and safety expectations when one family member books for another or when minors or dependents are involved.
- Mobile UX needs for quick decisions, status visibility, notifications, and handoffs between family members.
- Marketplace constraints including driver/courier supply, ETA accuracy, cancellations, substitutions, and local regulations.
- Business trade-offs around membership retention, incremental usage, abuse prevention, affordability, and unit economics.
The goal is to frame a clear product design direction for a family-centered Uber One mobile experience that improves everyday household coordination while strengthening member engagement, trust, and long-term value for Uber.
