Design a better Transit experience for riders at global scale

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Uber is a mobility and delivery platform; its products include rides, Uber Eats, grocery and retail delivery, freight, driver and courier tools, and marketplace pricing.

Uber wants to improve the Transit experience for riders at global scale. In this context, “Transit” refers to helping riders plan, compare, and complete trips that may involve public transportation, walking, micromobility, and/or Uber rides as part of a broader urban mobility journey.

Focus on riders who use Uber in cities where public transit is a major part of daily movement. These riders may be commuting, traveling to unfamiliar areas, trying to reduce cost, avoiding unreliable service, or deciding between transit and an Uber trip in real time. The experience must work across different cities, transit systems, languages, payment norms, safety expectations, and levels of data availability.

Your task is to frame the rider problem clearly and design a product experience that improves how riders discover, evaluate, and use transit-related options within Uber. Consider where Uber can add value beyond simply showing route information, while still respecting operational complexity, marketplace dynamics, local partnerships, trust, and reliability.

The experience should consider:

- Rider workflows before, during, and after a transit journey

- Key pain points such as uncertainty, delays, transfers, walking distance, safety, accessibility, and payment friction

- How riders compare transit with UberX, shared rides, bikes, scooters, taxis, or other local mobility options

- Global variation in transit quality, real-time data availability, fare systems, regulation, and local user expectations

- How the experience should support both frequent commuters and occasional or unfamiliar-city riders

- Trust-building moments, including ETA confidence, disruption handling, route clarity, and personal safety cues

- Constraints around partnerships, unit economics, marketplace liquidity, local operations, and technical scalability

- Success signals that would indicate the experience is genuinely improving rider mobility outcomes

The goal is to define a compelling, scalable rider-centered Transit experience for Uber, including the target user, core problem, product scope, key user flows, trade-offs, and how you would evaluate whether the design is successful.
