Design a new feature in Games that helps ad-supported users achieve better outcomes

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Netflix is a streaming entertainment company; its products include subscription video, original films and series, recommendations, profiles, games, and ad-supported plans.

Netflix is expanding the role of Games within a broader entertainment experience that includes streaming, ads, personalization, and global content discovery. In this product design question, you are asked to design a new Games feature specifically for Netflix members on the ad-supported plan.

Focus on ad-supported users as a distinct segment: they may be more price-sensitive, have different engagement patterns, encounter ad-related interruptions elsewhere in the service, and may need clearer reasons to explore Games as part of their subscription. The feature should help these users achieve “better outcomes,” which you should define in the context of Games—such as discovering relevant games, progressing in gameplay, feeling rewarded, returning more often, or getting more perceived value from Netflix.

The design should consider the full user journey: noticing Games, understanding why a game is worth trying, starting or resuming play, making progress, and connecting that experience back to the broader Netflix subscription. Avoid jumping directly to a feature idea; first clarify the user problem, target user, and success criteria.

The experience should consider:

- The specific ad-supported user segment you are designing for and how their needs differ from other Netflix members

- Where Games fits within the Netflix app experience and how users discover, launch, and return to games

- Frictions that may prevent ad-supported users from trying or continuing games

- What “better outcomes” means for users, not just for Netflix business metrics

- How personalization, content familiarity, rewards, progress, or social context could support the experience

- Constraints around attention, simplicity, global localization, device differences, and family/shared accounts

- How the feature can feel native to Netflix rather than like a separate gaming product

- How success, failure, and unintended consequences should be evaluated

Your goal is to frame a clear user problem and design a practical, Netflix-appropriate Games feature that improves the experience for ad-supported users while supporting broader goals such as retention, engagement, discovery, and perceived subscription value.
