Problem Statement Description
Product context: Amazon is a commerce, logistics, media, devices, and cloud company; its products include Marketplace, Prime, Prime Video, Alexa devices, ads, fulfillment, and AWS.
Amazon Prime depends on a reliable network of delivery partners to meet fast, predictable delivery promises for customers. In this product design interview, you are asked to improve the onboarding experience for delivery partners who are joining the Prime delivery ecosystem, such as independent drivers, small delivery businesses, or logistics partners preparing to accept Prime-related routes and delivery commitments.
Focus on the end-to-end journey from a partner’s first intent to join through becoming ready to complete their first successful deliveries. This may include application, eligibility checks, documentation, training, equipment or app setup, compliance requirements, route readiness, support, and early performance confidence. The core challenge is to reduce friction and ambiguity while maintaining Amazon’s standards for speed, safety, reliability, and customer trust.
Your response should define the target user clearly, identify the highest-friction moments in onboarding, and design a product experience that helps partners understand what to do, why it matters, and how to become operationally ready. Consider that delivery partners may vary widely in technical comfort, business maturity, geography, language, vehicle access, and familiarity with Amazon’s delivery expectations.
The experience should consider:
- The specific delivery partner segment you are optimizing for and their motivations, constraints, and anxieties
- The current onboarding workflow, including application, verification, training, setup, and first-route readiness
- Points where partners may drop off, get stuck, submit incorrect information, or require manual support
- Trust, compliance, safety, identity, insurance, payment, and operational-readiness requirements
- How the product communicates progress, next steps, blockers, and expected timelines
- How onboarding should adapt for different partner types, regions, experience levels, or business sizes
- How Amazon can balance partner speed-to-start with quality, reliability, and Prime delivery standards
- What success would look like for partners, customers, operations teams, and the Prime business
The goal is to propose a thoughtful product experience that improves onboarding completion, reduces time to readiness, increases partner confidence, and protects the reliability of the Prime delivery promise without prescribing a one-size-fits-all flow.
