What API and data model would support a new Creator Studio workflow for teen users

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Meta is a social technology company; its products include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Threads, Quest, creator tools, and ads.

Meta is exploring a Creator Studio workflow tailored for teen users who create, manage, and publish content across social surfaces. The interview asks you to define the API and data model that would support this workflow, with particular attention to how teen-specific safety, privacy, permissions, and product constraints affect the technical design.

Assume the workflow may include creating drafts, editing media, managing publishing status, collaborating or getting approvals where appropriate, viewing basic performance insights, and enforcing age-aware restrictions. The challenge is not to design the UI, but to describe the backend capabilities, entities, relationships, data flows, and contracts that would make the experience reliable and safe at Meta scale.

Your answer should balance creator needs with platform obligations: protecting teen users, respecting privacy settings, limiting misuse, enabling moderation and auditability, and supporting future extensibility across Meta’s creator ecosystem.

The experience should consider:

- Core user roles and permissions, including teen creators, guardians where relevant, reviewers, and platform systems

- Key data objects such as creator profiles, content assets, drafts, publish states, permissions, safety checks, and analytics summaries

- API requirements for creating, updating, submitting, scheduling, publishing, retrieving, and moderating creator content

- Privacy, security, consent, age-gating, data retention, and access-control constraints specific to teen users

- Integration points with media storage, identity, social graph, notifications, ranking/distribution, moderation, and insights systems

- Reliability expectations, failure handling, idempotency, versioning, rate limits, and abuse prevention

- Observability needs, including logs, audit trails, metrics, alerts, and debugging support without exposing sensitive teen data

The goal is to demonstrate how you would translate a sensitive teen creator workflow into a scalable technical product design, making clear trade-offs between product flexibility, safety, compliance, operational complexity, and long-term platform evolution.
