Problem Statement Description
Product context: Tesla is an electric vehicle, energy, and software company; its products include EVs, charging, vehicle software, Autopilot/FSD features, energy storage, and solar products.
Tesla wants to explore a trust-focused improvement for Autopilot in vehicles operated by ride-hail fleets at global scale. The target users are not only individual drivers, but also fleet owners, dispatch teams, safety/compliance managers, and passengers who experience Autopilot-assisted rides without directly controlling the vehicle.
In this context, “trust” should be treated as a product experience challenge across the full ride-hail workflow: vehicle assignment, driver handoff, passenger pickup, in-ride behavior, intervention moments, trip completion, incident review, and fleet operations. The design should account for the fact that ride-hail operators run large fleets across varied cities, regulations, road conditions, driver skill levels, and passenger expectations.
The candidate should define the core trust gap, choose a clear user segment and use case, and design an improvement that fits Tesla’s strengths in hardware-software integration, safety, autonomy, connected vehicle data, and fleet-scale operations. The scope should remain focused on the product experience rather than proposing broad business strategy or generic safety messaging.
The experience should consider:
- The distinct trust needs of drivers, passengers, fleet operators, and regulators
- Where Autopilot creates uncertainty, anxiety, overreliance, or operational friction in ride-hail workflows
