Problem Statement Description
Product context: Tesla is an electric vehicle, energy, and software company; its products include EVs, charging, vehicle software, Autopilot/FSD features, energy storage, and solar products.
Tesla wants to explore how Autopilot can be made more trustworthy for ride-hail operators who manage vehicles, drivers, passengers, uptime, and safety at scale. In this scenario, the user is not only the person behind the wheel, but also the fleet owner or operations manager responsible for deploying Tesla vehicles in commercial ride-hail service.
The core challenge is to design a product improvement that increases confidence in Autopilot during ride-hail operations without assuming full autonomy or removing driver responsibility. Trust may break down due to unclear system behavior, inconsistent driver understanding, passenger anxiety, incident escalation, regulatory concerns, or lack of fleet-level visibility into how Autopilot is being used.
