Problem Statement Description

Product context: Tesla is an electric vehicle, energy, and software company; its products include EVs, charging, vehicle software, Autopilot/FSD features, energy storage, and solar products.

Tesla’s Charging Network is a critical part of the broader energy and mobility ecosystem, serving drivers, fleet operators, site hosts, utilities, and energy partners across many markets. In this product design question, you are asked to design a new feature that helps energy customers achieve better outcomes at global scale, while fitting into Tesla’s integrated hardware, software, vehicle, charging, and energy platform.

Focus on the real charging workflow: discovering available charging, planning around range and time, managing charging cost, handling congestion, coordinating with grid conditions, and supporting different customer types across regions. Consider both individual EV owners and higher-scale energy customers such as commercial fleets, charging site operators, or energy partners, and be explicit about which user segment you prioritize.

The feature should address meaningful friction in the Charging Network experience, not just add a convenience layer. Think through how the experience would work across the Tesla app, in-vehicle software, charging infrastructure, payments, energy management systems, and operational support. The design should account for global variability in electricity pricing, regulations, charging standards, grid reliability, renewable energy availability, and competitive alternatives.

The experience should consider:

- The primary customer segment and the specific charging or energy outcome they are trying to improve

- Current workflow pain points before, during, and after a charging session

- How the feature uses Tesla’s hardware-software integration, vehicle data, charger data, energy products, and network scale

- How success could be evaluated through customer outcomes, network efficiency, adoption, retention, and energy impact
