Design a new feature in Creator Mode that helps students achieve better outcomes

Problem Statement Description

Product context: LinkedIn is Microsoft's professional network; its products include profiles, feed, jobs, recruiting, LinkedIn Learning, sales tools, messaging, and ads.

LinkedIn Creator Mode gives members tools to publish content, build an audience, and signal professional expertise. For students, however, “creating” is often not an end in itself; it is a means to achieve outcomes such as finding internships, landing first jobs, building credibility in a field, getting noticed by recruiters, connecting with alumni, or demonstrating skills before they have deep work experience.

Design a new feature within Creator Mode that helps students turn their learning, projects, interests, and early-career activity into better professional outcomes. The feature should fit naturally into LinkedIn’s professional identity and network context, where trust, authenticity, skills, and real-world opportunity matter more than generic social engagement.

Students may face friction around knowing what to share, how to present unfinished or early-stage work, how to reach the right audience, how to measure whether their activity is helping, and how to avoid looking unprofessional. The experience should support students who have limited work history but may have coursework, projects, certifications, volunteering, competitions, portfolios, or learning milestones that could be valuable to employers and professional communities.

The experience should consider:

- The specific student segment you are designing for, such as undergraduates, graduate students, bootcamp learners, international students, or career switchers.

- The student workflow from creating or discovering something worth sharing to publishing, getting feedback, building credibility, and translating activity into an opportunity.

- How the feature helps students achieve concrete outcomes beyond likes or followers, such as recruiter visibility, mentorship, referrals, portfolio strength, interview readiness, or relevant connections.

- How Creator Mode should guide students who may not know what professional content is appropriate, compelling, or credible.

- How LinkedIn can use its network, skill graph, learning ecosystem, alumni relationships, jobs marketplace, and recruiter presence without making the experience feel spammy or transactional.

- Trust, safety, and quality concerns, including exaggerated claims, low-quality content, privacy, student vulnerability, and audience relevance.

- Success signals for both students and LinkedIn, including outcome-oriented indicators, engagement quality, creator retention, and long-term professional identity strength.

The goal is to define a focused product experience that makes Creator Mode meaningfully useful for students, while preserving LinkedIn’s professional trust and creating a clear path from student expression to career progress.
