Design a new feature in Marketplace that helps families achieve better outcomes

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Amazon is a commerce, logistics, media, devices, and cloud company; its products include Marketplace, Prime, Prime Video, Alexa devices, ads, fulfillment, and AWS.

Amazon Marketplace serves households where buying decisions are often shared across parents, caregivers, partners, children, and extended family members. These families are not just trying to purchase individual items; they are trying to keep a household running, manage budgets, coordinate responsibilities, avoid missed needs, and make confident choices across a large catalog of products and sellers.

Design a new Marketplace feature that helps families achieve better outcomes. “Better outcomes” should be defined from the family’s perspective, such as saving time, reducing stress, improving planning, staying within budget, buying safer or more appropriate products, coordinating recurring needs, or making more confident household decisions. The feature should fit naturally within Amazon’s commerce experience and reflect the realities of selection, convenience, trust, delivery, and operational scalability.

Focus on a clear family segment and a concrete shopping workflow. For example, the family may be managing school supplies, groceries, baby products, elder care items, household essentials, birthdays, health-related needs, or recurring purchases. Your design should identify the most important pain points in that workflow and explain what the product experience must support without assuming unlimited user attention or operational complexity.

The experience should consider:

- Which family members are involved, who makes decisions, who pays, and who uses the purchased items

- The specific Marketplace journey being improved: discovery, comparison, list-building, approval, checkout, delivery, returns, or replenishment

- Frictions families face today, such as coordination gaps, duplicate purchases, budget uncertainty, unsafe or unsuitable products, overwhelming choice, or missed deadlines

- Trust and confidence needs around reviews, seller quality, product fit, age appropriateness, subscriptions, and delivery reliability

- How the feature could work across mobile, desktop, Alexa-enabled experiences, notifications, and existing Amazon account structures

- Constraints related to privacy, family permissions, payments, recommendations, logistics, seller participation, and customer support

- Success signals that would indicate the feature is improving family outcomes rather than simply increasing transactions

The goal is to frame and design a customer-obsessed Marketplace feature that addresses a meaningful family need, improves the shopping workflow, and can plausibly operate at Amazon scale while balancing convenience, trust, business impact, and long-term customer value.
