Problem Statement Description
You are designing an enterprise analytics workspace for restaurant owners who need to understand business performance across sales, orders, menu items, locations, staff, channels, and customer trends. The product is intended for busy owners and operators who may not be analytics experts and often rely on fragmented systems such as POS tools, delivery platforms, reservation systems, spreadsheets, and accounting software.
The specific business outcome is to improve verified activation: getting a legitimate restaurant owner or authorized operator to complete the required setup, verify their business or access rights, connect or confirm relevant data sources, and reach a meaningful first-use moment where the workspace can be trusted for business decisions. The design should focus on the end-to-end product experience, not just the final dashboard.
Consider the workflow from first landing or invitation through account creation, restaurant verification, data connection, workspace setup, first insight discovery, and repeat usage. Pay close attention to friction caused by limited time, low technical confidence, multiple locations, delegated staff access, data accuracy concerns, and the need to build trust before the owner relies on the analytics.
The experience should consider:
- Who the primary and secondary users are, such as owners, general managers, accountants, franchise operators, or marketing staff.
- What “verified activation” means in this context and what user behaviors or system states indicate it has occurred.
- How owners prove business ownership or authorization without creating excessive onboarding friction.
- How the workspace handles fragmented restaurant data sources, missing data, incorrect mappings, and multi-location setups.
- What first-time experience helps users quickly understand value before asking for too much effort.
- How the product communicates data quality, freshness, permissions, privacy, and trust.
- What core analytics jobs the workspace should support, such as revenue tracking, menu performance, labor or demand trends, channel comparisons, and operational alerts.
- How the experience should adapt for small independent restaurants versus larger restaurant groups.
Your goal is to frame a product design that improves the likelihood that eligible restaurant owners successfully activate, trust the workspace, and return to use it for operational decisions, while balancing onboarding simplicity, verification rigor, data reliability, and business value.
