Redesign community moderation so content moderators can complete their main job faster

Problem Statement Description

Community moderation teams are responsible for reviewing user-generated content, reports, appeals, and policy violations so that a platform remains safe, trusted, and usable. In this problem, you are redesigning the moderation experience for professional content moderators whose primary job is to evaluate moderation queues and make accurate, timely decisions.

Assume the product operates at large scale, with high content volume, multiple violation types, varying policy complexity, and moderators working under time pressure. Moderators may need to inspect content context, apply policy, choose an action, document rationale, escalate edge cases, and move to the next item quickly without sacrificing decision quality or user safety.

Your task is not to design a generic admin dashboard, but to reason through the moderator workflow and identify where speed is lost: queue prioritization, context gathering, repetitive actions, policy ambiguity, tooling fragmentation, mental load, quality checks, escalation paths, or handoffs between humans and automated systems. The redesign should support faster completion of the moderator’s main job while maintaining trust, fairness, and safety.

The experience should consider:

- The core moderation workflow from queue entry to decision, action, documentation, escalation, or appeal readiness

- Different content types, violation categories, severity levels, and urgency of review

- Moderator pain points such as context switching, unclear policies, duplicate work, fatigue, and slow tool interactions

- How automation or AI assistance may support triage, summaries, recommendations, or quality checks without removing human accountability

- Accuracy, consistency, auditability, and policy compliance as constraints alongside speed

- Edge cases such as coordinated abuse, borderline content, multilingual content, repeat offenders, or sensitive material

- Accessibility, reviewer well-being, and safe handling of disturbing content

- Success measures that distinguish faster throughput from unsafe or lower-quality moderation

The goal is to design a product experience that helps content moderators complete high-quality moderation decisions faster, with clear prioritization, sufficient context, low-friction actions, and safeguards that preserve platform safety and user trust.
