Redesign the mobile experience of Azure for IT leaders

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Microsoft is a productivity, software, AI, gaming, and cloud company; its products include Windows, Microsoft 365, Teams, LinkedIn, Xbox, Azure, Dynamics, and Copilot. Azure is Microsoft's cloud platform; its products include compute, storage, databases, networking, identity, AI services, analytics, and developer tools.

Microsoft Azure is a mission-critical platform for enterprises, but many IT leaders are not always at their desks when urgent cloud, security, cost, or reliability decisions arise. This question asks you to redesign the Azure mobile experience specifically for IT leaders such as CIOs, VPs of Infrastructure, heads of Cloud Operations, and senior IT administrators who need visibility and control across cloud environments while moving between meetings, incidents, approvals, and executive reviews.

The current mobile workflow may need to support high-stakes, time-sensitive tasks: checking service health, understanding incident impact, reviewing cost anomalies, approving access or deployment requests, monitoring compliance posture, and escalating issues to the right teams. The challenge is not to shrink the full Azure portal onto a phone, but to determine what an IT leader truly needs from Azure on mobile and how the experience should help them make confident decisions quickly.

Your response should define the target user, their context, the most important pain points, and the scope of the redesigned mobile product experience. Consider Microsoft’s enterprise expectations around trust, security, compliance, productivity, and platform integration, while balancing simplicity with the complexity of Azure’s cloud management environment.

The experience should consider:

- The most important mobile use cases for IT leaders versus hands-on cloud engineers or developers

- Workflows around alerts, incident triage, approvals, cost visibility, governance, and executive reporting

- How to prioritize information so leaders can quickly understand severity, business impact, ownership, and next steps

- Security, identity, permissions, and compliance expectations for enterprise mobile access

- Integration with Microsoft ecosystem tools such as Teams, Entra ID, Defender, Outlook, and Azure Monitor where relevant

- Notification design, escalation paths, and reducing alert fatigue

- Differences between urgent mobile actions and tasks better deferred to desktop

- Success criteria for evaluating whether the redesigned experience improves decision-making and operational confidence

The goal is to frame a thoughtful product design approach for Azure mobile that improves the day-to-day effectiveness of IT leaders without compromising enterprise trust, control, or security.
