Redesign the mobile experience of Creator Tools for mobile-first viewers at global scale

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Netflix is a streaming entertainment company; its products include subscription video, original films and series, recommendations, profiles, games, and ad-supported plans.

Netflix wants to rethink the mobile experience around Creator Tools for a global audience that primarily discovers and consumes entertainment on phones. The focus is on how creators, talent, partners, or approved community voices can help mobile-first viewers discover Netflix shows, movies, games, live events, and ad-supported content in ways that feel native to mobile behavior while still protecting Netflix’s brand, rights, and viewing experience.

The current workflow may involve creators identifying relevant Netflix content, finding usable assets or moments, adapting them for different languages and formats, publishing or sharing them across mobile channels, and helping viewers continue into the Netflix app. Friction can appear in content selection, permissions, localization, mobile editing, attribution, platform handoff, spoiler control, accessibility, and measuring whether creator-driven discovery actually improves engagement or retention.

This is a product design problem, not just a content-marketing exercise. The experience should account for global scale, varied device quality, bandwidth constraints, cultural differences, local regulations, subscription and ads contexts, and competition from short-form video platforms and other streaming services.

The experience should consider:

- The primary users and their jobs-to-be-done, including creators, mobile-first viewers, and Netflix teams responsible for content, marketing, legal, and trust.

- The end-to-end mobile workflow from content discovery or asset selection through creation, review, publishing, sharing, viewer engagement, and follow-through into Netflix.

- Key pain points around small-screen creation, low-bandwidth usage, localization, accessibility, rights management, brand safety, and moderation.

- How the experience should support both high-quality Netflix storytelling and fast, lightweight creator workflows.

- The relationship between creator content and core Netflix goals such as discovery, personalization, retention, streaming starts, and engagement with new formats like games or live content.

- Global differences in creator behavior, social platforms, payment expectations, language, culture, and device capabilities.

- Trust, safety, privacy, and compliance considerations when enabling content creation or distribution around licensed entertainment.

- Success signals and product boundaries without assuming that every creator, title, or region should be supported in the same way.

The goal is to define a compelling mobile product experience that makes creator-led discovery easier and more valuable for Netflix’s global mobile-first audience, while clearly articulating the users, workflows, constraints, trade-offs, and product scope that should guide the redesign.
