Design a new feature in Copilot that helps security teams achieve better outcomes

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Microsoft is a productivity, software, AI, gaming, and cloud company; its products include Windows, Microsoft 365, Teams, LinkedIn, Xbox, Azure, Dynamics, and Copilot.

Microsoft Copilot is increasingly used across enterprise workflows, and security teams are under pressure to detect, investigate, prioritize, and respond to threats faster while maintaining trust, compliance, and auditability. In this product design question, you are asked to propose a new Copilot feature that helps security teams achieve better outcomes in their day-to-day work.

Focus on the needs of enterprise security users such as SOC analysts, incident responders, security engineers, compliance stakeholders, and security leaders. Consider how these users work across alerts, logs, tickets, endpoint data, identity systems, cloud resources, collaboration tools, and reporting workflows, and where an AI assistant could reduce friction without creating new risk.

Your response should define the user problem clearly, identify the target user and workflow, and design a feature experience that fits within Microsoft’s broader Copilot and enterprise security ecosystem. The design should balance productivity gains with accuracy, explainability, permissions, privacy, and operational control.

The experience should consider:

- The specific security workflow being improved, such as triage, investigation, incident response, threat hunting, reporting, or knowledge management

- The primary user persona and their current pain points, including alert fatigue, context switching, manual investigation, or slow escalation

- How Copilot should access, summarize, reason over, and present security-relevant information from enterprise systems

- What actions the user can take, what remains human-approved, and how confidence or uncertainty is communicated

- Trust, security, compliance, audit logs, role-based access, and data boundary requirements

- Integration with Microsoft security products and common enterprise collaboration or ticketing workflows

- Success metrics that indicate better security outcomes, not just higher feature usage

- Risks such as hallucination, over-automation, missed threats, user overreliance, or sensitive data exposure

The goal is to design a practical, enterprise-ready Copilot feature that meaningfully improves security team effectiveness while preserving the trust and control required in high-stakes security operations.
