Design a new feature in Facebook Groups that helps advertisers achieve better outcomes

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Meta is a social technology company; its products include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Threads, Quest, creator tools, and ads. Facebook is Meta's social network; its products include feed, groups, pages, events, Marketplace, video, messaging surfaces, recommendations, and ads.

Facebook Groups are built around communities with shared interests, local needs, identities, life stages, hobbies, and commerce behaviors. Advertisers want to reach people in moments of high intent and trust, but Groups also have strong norms around authenticity, moderation, privacy, and member safety. The challenge is to design a new feature that helps advertisers achieve better outcomes without degrading the community experience for group members or increasing burden on group admins.

Assume you are designing within Meta’s broader ads ecosystem, where advertisers may range from small local businesses to large brands, creators, marketplaces, and service providers. The feature should account for how advertisers discover relevant communities, create or adapt campaigns for group contexts, measure outcomes, and respect group rules and user expectations.

Your response should focus on the end-to-end product experience: who the primary users are, what pain points they face today, where the feature fits into Facebook Groups and Ads Manager workflows, and how success would be measured for advertisers, members, admins, and Meta.

The experience should consider:

- Advertiser objectives such as awareness, leads, sales, event attendance, community engagement, or repeat purchase

- Group member expectations around relevance, trust, transparency, privacy, and control

- Admin and moderator roles, incentives, workload, and ability to protect group quality

- How targeting, placement, creative, and messaging should work in a group environment

- How the feature avoids spam, low-quality ads, scams, misinformation, or community disruption

- Measurement needs, including attribution, conversion quality, incrementality, and advertiser ROI

- Differences across group types, sizes, privacy settings, geographies, and advertiser maturity

- Trade-offs between monetization, user experience, safety, and long-term community health

The goal is to define a compelling product feature that improves advertiser outcomes in Facebook Groups while preserving the trust and participation that make Groups valuable. Your answer should show clear prioritization, user empathy across multiple stakeholders, and a thoughtful approach to product constraints in a high-scale social advertising environment.
