Improve onboarding in Meta Quest for small businesses

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Meta is a social technology company; its products include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Threads, Quest, creator tools, and ads.

Meta Quest is increasingly relevant beyond gaming, including use cases such as employee training, customer demos, virtual collaboration, design review, wellness, events, and immersive brand experiences. For small businesses, however, adopting VR can be intimidating: owners or operators may have limited technical support, unclear ROI expectations, multiple employees to set up, and concerns around device management, privacy, safety, and ongoing support.

Your task is to improve the onboarding experience for small businesses using Meta Quest. Focus on the end-to-end journey from first interest or purchase through setup, first successful business use case, and repeat usage by the team. Consider the different users involved, such as the business owner, office manager, trainer, frontline employee, customer-facing staff, or a lightweight IT admin.

This is a product design question, so emphasize user needs, workflow friction, and the product experience required to make Quest feel practical, trustworthy, and valuable for a small business context. You do not need to design enterprise-grade device management for large corporations, but you should account for the realities of small teams with limited time, budget, and technical expertise.

The experience should consider:

- How small businesses discover relevant Quest use cases and decide whether VR is worth adopting

- The first-time setup flow for one or multiple headsets, accounts, apps, permissions, and business profiles

- How employees are invited, trained, and guided to their first meaningful session

- How business owners understand value, progress, usage, and outcomes after onboarding

- Pain points around comfort, safety, privacy, shared-device use, and customer-facing scenarios

- Support needs when setup fails, employees are confused, or the business lacks technical staff

- How the experience fits within Meta’s broader strengths in social connection, immersive platforms, creators, and ads

- What should be intentionally excluded or deferred to keep the onboarding scope focused

The goal is to define a clear product experience that helps small businesses quickly understand, set up, and realize value from Meta Quest, while identifying the primary user, core jobs-to-be-done, key friction points, and success criteria for an improved onboarding journey.
