Design a new feature in Recruiter that helps students achieve better outcomes

Problem Statement Description

Product context: LinkedIn is Microsoft's professional network; its products include profiles, feed, jobs, recruiting, LinkedIn Learning, sales tools, messaging, and ads.

LinkedIn Recruiter is primarily used by hiring teams and talent professionals to source, evaluate, and engage candidates. In this question, you are designing a new feature within Recruiter that helps students achieve better outcomes, such as being discovered for relevant opportunities, receiving appropriate outreach, and progressing toward internships, entry-level roles, or early-career pathways.

Students often have incomplete work histories, uneven professional networks, limited awareness of role requirements, and difficulty translating coursework, projects, skills, and interests into signals recruiters can trust. Recruiters, meanwhile, may struggle to identify high-potential students, compare nontraditional profiles fairly, or personalize outreach at scale without adding too much workflow complexity.

Your task is to define a product experience that improves outcomes for students while still fitting naturally into the Recruiter workflow and creating value for hiring teams. Consider how LinkedIn’s professional identity, network data, skills graph, learning ecosystem, and trust expectations could shape the feature, without assuming unlimited data quality or recruiter attention.

The experience should consider:

- The primary student segment you are designing for, such as college students, recent graduates, career switchers, or students from underrepresented backgrounds

- The specific recruiter workflow where the feature appears, including sourcing, filtering, shortlisting, outreach, pipeline review, or follow-up

- The core student pain point being addressed and how it connects to measurable hiring or career outcomes

- What signals recruiters need to evaluate students fairly despite limited professional experience

- How the experience balances student benefit with recruiter efficiency and employer hiring goals

- Trust, privacy, consent, and potential bias risks when using education, skills, projects, or network-based data

- How the feature could integrate with LinkedIn profiles, skills, learning, messaging, and existing Recruiter tools

- What success would look like for students, recruiters, employers, and LinkedIn

The goal is to propose a focused, user-centered feature for LinkedIn Recruiter that meaningfully improves student career outcomes while strengthening the quality, relevance, and trust of early-career hiring on the platform.
