Redesign the mobile experience of Ads Manager for families

Problem Statement Description

Product context: Meta is a social technology company; its products include Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, Threads, Quest, creator tools, and ads.

Meta Ads Manager is a powerful tool for creating, managing, and measuring ads across Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and related surfaces, but its mobile experience can feel complex for non-expert advertisers. In this question, “families” should be treated as a distinct user segment: family-run businesses, parent-led creators, or household teams that rely on phones to manage promotions while balancing limited time, shared responsibilities, budgets, and trust concerns.

These users may need to promote a local service, family shop, community event, creator page, or small commerce business. Their workflow can span choosing what to advertise, setting a budget, approving creative, responding to customer messages, monitoring results, and deciding whether to continue spending. The current mobile experience may create friction through advertising jargon, fragmented permissions, unclear performance feedback, billing anxiety, and difficulty coordinating among multiple family members.

This is a product design interview question. You are expected to define the user segment, clarify the highest-priority jobs and pain points, and frame a redesigned mobile Ads Manager experience that fits Meta’s ecosystem, business model, safety expectations, and ads effectiveness goals.

The experience should consider:

- Who in the family is using the product: owner, spouse, parent, teen helper, creator, or delegated operator

- The end-to-end mobile workflow from campaign setup to monitoring, optimization, and renewal

- How non-expert users understand goals, budgets, targeting, creative quality, and ad performance

- Trust, safety, privacy, and permission needs when multiple family members share business responsibilities

- How Ads Manager connects with Instagram posts, Facebook Pages, WhatsApp messages, commerce, and customer interactions

- Friction around payments, spend limits, approvals, notifications, and confidence in results

- Trade-offs between simplifying the experience and preserving advertiser control, measurement, and ads efficiency

The goal is to design a mobile Ads Manager experience that helps family-oriented advertisers confidently launch and manage effective campaigns while reducing complexity, preventing costly mistakes, and supporting safe collaboration across Meta’s platforms.
